About Pitch Black

Pitch Black Underground was created on October 3, 2010 during a rainy day in Milwaukie, Oregon. For months I had tossed around the idea of someday opening a street soccer style court in the Portland area. My original thought was to open a soccer focused pub that featured an enclosed court inside the building. Other mental layouts had the court located outside the bar on a back patio or on the roof. Basically, the general idea was to create a facility that was unique when compared to all the other offerings across town. To build an atmosphere that players from all over would want to experience and never forget. As I continued to talk with friends and build a list of features  that I wanted to incorporate, I needed a place to share my ideas. Starting this blog became a way to put my thoughts and designs in public view in hopes of receiving comments and suggestions from my peers.

With the help of my father I have created a few different concept designs for Pitch Black. My court will be smaller than what you find at standard indoor facilities, and it will feature a hard court surface similar to an outdoor basketball court. I took inspiration from many sources, but it all stemmed from my experience playing in the Thirsty Lion 3 v 3 street soccer tournament in the summer of 2009.

You could say I'm pretty familiar with all the indoor facilities in the Portland area. However, I still understand the importance of conducting market research to determine whether my street court idea holds any potential. I make sure to look into how many teams play at each facility and whether the players enjoy the experience.

There are a few features I would like to highlight that I feel are unique to Pitch Black. Some of these ideas may be over the top, but it all adds to the unique atmosphere I want to achieve. You can click through to the original posts about each concept. Please take a look and feel free to let me know what you think. This blog was created to help me collect ideas from fellow soccer enthusiasts.
