"Rose City FC" Merchandise

Today marked the release of the Timber's secondary jersey, now called the "Rose City FC" kit. Along with it comes a whole line of merchandise featuring the secondary rose crest. How do you all feel about this alternate brand they are pushing? Let me know what you think.

  1. The Red jersey by itself is awesome. But Rose City FC? I think it is a shout out to the Rose City Soccer Club in NE Portland.

The t-shirts, sweathirts and cheesy accessories are a bit too much, though.

  2. I agree with you Jordan. It's way over the top. Is this what MP wanted to call the team all along? I swear MLS and its fascination with naming teams after European clubs. Sporting KC...Real Salt Lake...DC United... and now Rose City FC.

Atleast they didn't go with Rip City FC.... yikes

  3. I still don't understand what Rose City FC signifies. I get that Portland is the Rose City, but can't seem to find any history that makes me understand why this is being done. I'd love a clue if anyone has one.

  4. I knew this already, being a bit of a history nerd, but a quick visit to Wikipedia yielded the nicely phrased explanation...

"Portland lies in the Marine west coast climate region, marked by warm, dry summers and rainy but mild winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and for more than a century, Portland has been known as "The City of Roses"[10][11] with many rose gardens—most prominently the International Rose Test Garden."
